Digital Rights and responsibilities
As a digital user we have Rights and RESPONSIBILITIES that must be followed in order to keep us, our peers, and school safe.
Our school has an acceptable use policy that can be viewed to have a better understanding of the rights and Responsibilities of a digital user. It is very important to watch the AUP in order to have a very clear understanding with what is accaeptable not acceptable to do with the technology that is available to us.
It is very important to follow the acceptable use policy inside and outside of school in order to keep us and our peers safe.
According to Ribble (2011) , Digital rights and responsibilities keywords include understanding technology rules, and helping others online" (pg.36).
It is important to remember that if we want to use something from the internet, whether it is a picture, quote, or even a video we must always reference where we borrowed the information from!
If we do not reference the material we use then we are technically stealing someone else's work and that is not acceptable. We would not want someone else to use our work and receive credit for it , therefore it is important that people give credit to those who have created the work.
As a digital user it is also very important that we are using the technology for the correct and appropriate reasons. If we use technology for inappropriate reasons we can cause harm to us or others. It is very important to notify a grown up or a responsible adult of inapporpriate behavior that is witnessed while using technology. Remember we want to stay SAFE!
Before we can use technology it is very important that we understand the rules as well as how to use the equipment. Therefore, learning and understanding the rules and how the equipment works and what the technology does plays a huge role in Digital Rights and Responsibility.
